Palm Jumeirah, often claimed to
be the 8th wonder of the world, lies off the Dubai’s coastline. The
man-made island was made possible after 5 years of meticulous planning as well
as land reclamation. It’s part of The Palm Islands and is one of the 3 man-made
islands included in the project – the other two being The Palm Deira and The
Palm Jebel Ali.
The island spans over an area of
5 km square and adds 78.6 kilometers to the coastline of Dubai. When the
project was at the peak of its construction, there were around 40000 employees
working here every single day as they turned 94m cubic meters sand as well as
7m tons rocks into one beautiful leisure resort that meets the 21st
century standards.
The Manmade Island
A dream project of Dubai’s Prime
Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the man-made
island was actually realized into 8th wonder of the world after
years of planning and hard work.
The major aim behind the
construction of this island was to boost country’s extraordinary initiatives to
bring more tourism to Dubai. The island was also aimed at adding more
beachfront to the 72km long coastline of the emirate.
What sets it apart from normal
constructions on the planet is that it’s built artificially in the Arabian Gulf
and that it has a beautiful design which is inspired from the traditional palm
tree. In fact, the design was something even more challenging to achieve and it
dictated things right throughout the development of the island. This design
choice was both professional and personal. It’s actually a symbolic
representation of the heritage of Dubai.
The shape of the palm tree also
gives the right kind of geometry for creating such longest beachfront. Moving
forward, it required a huge wealth of specific expertise from a wide variety of
disciplines for reclaiming the land before turning it into habitable and safe
environment. Nevertheless, everything was made possible with the dedicated
efforts of years and today we have a luxury island ready for the locals and
tourists to explore.
Vast Expanse Of Prime Real Estate
Besides being one-of-a-kind
project, the Palm Jumeirah has added a vast expanse of prime real estate to Dubai. There are quite a few high-demand areas on the island today with some of
the high-end real estate projects being completed already.
The trunk tops the list when it
comes to prime real estate on the island. This 68000m2 expanse of
land is, basically, a commercial development with Village Center at its north
end.
On the west side, there’s the
well-known Golden Mile that was launched as a joint venture of Nakheel and
Istithmar. It’s comprised of a retail and residential boulevard – one golden
mile featuring above 200 retail stores, a mall, offices, and ten apartment
buildings with 700 apartments in total.
In fact, that’s not all! There
are a variety of other developments and communities on the island where prime
pieces of land are available for sale and rent.
The Fronds Of Palm Jumeirah
As you go further away from the
trunk, you’ll find 16 fronds of the island which housed 1500 luxurious villas
in the first stage. Shoreline apartments made up a major development on the
fronds with 2600 units diversified across 1-3 bedroom plans and 80 penthouses
give residents a taste of luxury lifestyle on the island.
On top of this entire creation is
the beautiful crescent that spans over 11.5 kilometers stretch of land. The
crescent is home to 22 luxurious hotels including The Atlantis and The Palm.
Furthermore, it’s also home to the beautiful Kempinski Emerald Palace hotel and
resort that offers luxury experiences to the residents and visitors alike.
There are four marinas as well
that complete this lineup. Around 582 berths are provided by the anchor marina
and it includes shops, offices, cafes, and restaurants. The Palm hosts 1500
berths in total. Then there is Marina Residences which is a prime development
housing 940 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom penthouses and apartments. There are 40
townhouses in the development as well. Click here to know about activities you can enjoy in palm jumeirah.
Conclusion
The
iconic Palm Jumeirah really is one of the wonders of the world that
was made possible after years of dedicated efforts and engineering precision.
The challenge was well-taken and it’s a reality today and contributes greatly
to the Emirate’s economy.
